Have I Mentioned

Have I Mentioned

You're like that cat
I almost hit with my car
That as much as I hate cats
I had to slam on the brakes
Then
Took one more look around
Realized what I'm doing just isn't right
That even if no one's lookin'
I should be a good girl anyway

I was going out
To ride my bike today
But it's a little too chilly this morning
Wouldn't you agree?
Besides
I'd just come past
About a couple doaen times
Before you'd look out and see me
And I'd break down and cry

Have I mentioned
I paint my toenails purple still
Your favorite color
Or that I tried
To dye my hair to blond
One time you'd asked me to
Or that I still smoke
Like a chimney
Though you begged me to stop
And here I am
In some strange way
Still trying to change to be your girl.

I won't change to be your girl

I'm sorry
I called your house today
I wasn't thinking when it rang 5 times
Then left a message with your mom
Though
I don't regret it
Not like the nights when we would fight
I'd go out drinking with my friends
You know they like how I dance and sing

Have I mentioned
I wear my dresses longer now
You woulda' liked that
Or that I laid off
The karaoke bars
You always hate when I perform
Or that I drink
Like a fish still
My liver thanks me
And here I am
In some strange way
Still trying to change to be your girl

I won't change to be your girl

When I'd talk about my big dreams
You'd smile condescendingly
And assure me that one day honey
I'd have to grow up, too
When I'd talk about the future
And you'd decry my age again
And you'd promise me that years of pain
Would make me bitter, too

Have I mentioned
I'm at the big kids table now
You coulda' joined me
Or that the pain
Has made me stronger
I'm really good at bouncing back
Or that Mary Jane still comes to visit
I know you hate her
And here I am
In some strange way
Still trying to change to be your girl

I won't change to be your girl

I'll never be your girl again

I'd never change to be your girl.
