La Donna Cannone (english Version)

Francesco de Gregori

One day I'll shove this huge heart of mine into the stars, I promise that I will

And beyond the blue of the circus tent into the wild blue I'll fly.

When the huge cannonball woman will turn into gold and silver

without passing through the station she'll get on the last train.

In spite of all the harmful and proud people my name will be bright

and the day will hold on at the gates of the night

while the paying people will clap their hands

and out of the cannonhole a song will spread.

And with my hands, my love, your hands I'll hold

and saying no words into my heart I'll carry you.

And I'll have no fear if i'll not be lovely as you'd like

but we'll soar up in the sky, flesh and blood, and we'll not return.

And with no hunger, no thirst, and with no wings, no safety net, we will fly away.

This is how the huge cannonball woman, that gigantic mystery flew,

alone glided into the dark sky

All the people closed their eyes, in the exact moment she disappeard

Many more went on swearing that they were not there.

And with my hands, my love, your hands I'll hold

and saying no words into my heart I'll carry you.

And I'll have no fear if i'll not be lovely as you'd say

but we'll soar up in the sky, flesh and blood, and we'll not return.

And with no hunger, no thirst, and with no wings, no safety net, we will fly away.
